A shower partition is usually the first thing people change in an Indian bathroom, because it keeps the dry area dry without closing the room in. Mirrors, frosted doors and back-painted counters do the rest of the work, and none of it swells or warps in humidity the way timber does. What goes where
The pieces of glass this room usually calls for, and what to ask for on each.
Shower partition or enclosure
A fixed 8–10mm toughened panel or a full sliding enclosure — measure the finished tiled faces, not the rough opening, because toughened glass cannot be trimmed on site.
How to measure →LED and anti-fog mirrors
An integrated LED strip gives even light for shaving or make-up, and a heating pad behind the glass keeps the centre clear right through a hot shower.
See indicative prices →Frosted glass bathroom door
Toughened glass with an acid-etched or sandblasted face gives full privacy while still carrying daylight into a bathroom that has no window.
Back-painted vanity counter
Lacquered glass over the counter wipes clean of toothpaste and hard-water marks without the sealing that natural stone needs.
Bathroom skylight
A laminated glass skylight is often the only way to get daylight into an internal bathroom — laminated, never plain toughened, so nothing can fall through.

What glass should a bathroom shower partition be made of?
8mm toughened glass for a fixed panel in a normal apartment bathroom, 10mm where the panel is tall or unsupported at the top, and 12mm for frameless doors carrying heavy hinges. It must be toughened, never plain float — if toughened glass ever breaks it crumbles into blunt granules rather than shards. Look for the toughening stamp etched into a corner of the panel; it is small, and it is your proof.
How do I stop water escaping from the shower area?
Most leaks are a floor problem, not a glass problem. You want a fall of roughly 1 in 80 towards the drain, a proper silicone bead sealing the wet side of the partition at floor level, and a drip strip or low threshold where the floor is close to flat. The 8–10mm gap under a shower door is deliberate — it helps the enclosure dry out — and it is not what is causing the puddle.
Will a glass shower enclosure go cloudy with hard water?
In most Indian cities it will, unless it gets squeegeed. Dissolved salts dry onto the surface and slowly etch in, which is why untouched enclosures look milky after a year. A factory-applied hydrophobic coating slows it down and is worth asking about, but thirty seconds with a squeegee after a shower does more than any coating or cleaner.
Why do bathroom mirrors go black around the edges?
Moisture reaching the silvering, almost always from the edge. Ask for a copper-free silver mirror with a moisture-resistant backing paint, mount it on a flat backing board with a small ventilation gap behind, and keep the bottom edge clear of the counter so standing water cannot wick in. Clean with a barely damp cloth rather than spraying liquid at the frame.
How precise do bathroom glass measurements have to be?
Very. Toughened glass is cut, drilled and notched before it goes into the furnace, and nothing can be altered afterwards — a 5mm error means a new panel and a fresh wait. Measure the finished tiled faces at three heights, check plumb with a level, and flag out-of-square walls, because a good fabricator will template rather than assume a rectangle. The Glassy shower measurement guide walks through it step by step.
