A shopfront is usually three jobs in one — the window, the entrance and what sits behind the glass. Each guide covers the types, the spec and the indicative rate.
Glass Facades and Structural GlazingA glass facade is a building’s outer skin: glass carried on an aluminium grid, bonded to it with structural silicone, or bolted to spider fittings on a steel or glass structure.8 cities priced
Glass DoorsA glass door is two decisions that get made together: the leaf, and the hardware that hangs it.8 cities priced
Decorative GlassDecorative glass is ordinary float glass with a finish worked into it — etched or blasted to a frost, painted on the back to a solid colour, cast with ribs, or printed.8 cities pricedGlazing a shop?

Indicative ranges aggregated from Glassy’s published city pages. Shopfront work is priced on pane size, access from the street and whether the work happens after trading hours, so treat these as orientation — not a quotation. Indicative ranges last reviewed June 2026.

Before you order a shopfront
- Specify laminated, not just toughened, at street levelToughened glass is strong but falls out of the opening when it breaks. Laminated holds together on its interlayer, which is what keeps a shop closed overnight rather than open to the pavement.Toughened vs laminated
- Measure the opening after the shutter box is inRoll-down shutter housings eat 200–300mm of head height and are often fitted after the glazier has measured. Re-measure once the shutter is in — toughened glass cannot be trimmed on site.
- Decide the entrance hardware before the glassA floor spring, a patch fitting and a framed door all need different cut-outs, and the cut-outs are made before tempering. Changing the door type later means new glass, not new hardware.
- Check what the landlord and the local body allowMany high streets and malls restrict how far a shopfront may project, what may be applied to the glass and whether the frame must match a scheme. Confirm before fabrication, not after.
- Price the installation window honestlyFitting a large pane on a busy street usually means a night or early-morning slot and sometimes a permit. Ask whether that is inside the quote or an extra.Pane weight calculator
What shop owners ask first
What thickness of glass is used for a shopfront in India?
12mm toughened is the common default for a full-height shopfront pane, with 10mm used on smaller openings and laminated 13.52mm where security or a large unsupported span matters. The right answer depends on pane size and exposure — get it specified against the actual opening rather than by rule of thumb.
Should a shopfront be toughened or laminated glass?
Laminated for anything at street level that you want to stay in the frame after an impact — it holds together on its interlayer. Toughened is fine where the pane is protected or a shutter comes down over it. Laminated runs roughly ₹90–₹600 per sq ft across Glassy’s published city pages.
How much does a frameless glass shop entrance cost?
The door itself is usually quoted as a piece rather than by area, because the price is dominated by the floor spring, patch fittings and handle rather than the glass. Ask for the hardware to be itemised — it is often more than half the number.
Can a shopfront be installed without closing the shop?
Often, if the work is staged — the frame and any shutter first, the glass in a single night or early-morning slot. Large panes on a busy street may need a permit or a road-side lift, so ask whether that sits inside the quote.
What does toughened glass display shelving cost?
Display shelves are quoted per piece in some cities and per sq ft in others, landing roughly ₹90–₹2,500 per piece across Glassy’s published pages depending on size, edge polish and the brackets. Confirm which unit you are being quoted in before comparing two numbers.
Who fits a shopfront — a glass shop or a fabricator?
Usually a glass shop or fabricator that does its own installation, since the glass, the framing and the door hardware are one scope. Glassy lists 7,443 glass shops and 980 manufacturers and fabricators, so you can approach either directly.
